about me...

My photo
Cape Town, South Africa
I love my life!! I am a very happy single girl. the love of my life is my dog Lola, when i grew up i was a cat person and never imagined that i would be owned by a big furry animal but alas when she happened to me it was by far one of the best things ever!! my great passion in life is collecting art and i'm a complete addict when it comes to this - i love my ever expanding collection!

The Grand, Granger Bay

This is definitely one of the best settings in Cape Town!! After getting turned away twice because of private functions we finally made it inside today!!
It was a perfect day and we chose a table on the beach - kicked off our shoes and celebrated with a glass of ice cold wine.  The food was "nice" - we ordered one of their huge pizzas and some salad - a bit on the expensive side but just sitting in such a beautiful spot makes it seem irrelevant....

Babylonstoren

We were privileged to get a table at Babylonstoren in December - they were very busy and you have to book well in advance.  The weather did not play along - wet, wet, wet - so we could not visit their legendary garden but deep down I'm glad because now I HAVE TO go back.  So it was off to the restaurant - I absolute love the decor - it is simple, beautiful, clean, interesting and fresh.  The food was AMAZING!!!  Almost everybody at the table had the fillet with creamy mushrooms served with a gorgonzola ice cream - the best fillet ever, the best mushrooms ever and the ice cream drool-lishes!!  With this they serve a huge bowl of THE BEST POTATO WEDGES I'VE EVER TASTED!!!  plus a beautiful platter of veggies - it was one of those lunches where everybody quiets down and tune into the moment and just relax and enjoy the food - for dessert we had THE BEST CREME BRULEE I'VE EVER TASTED!!!  it's not cheap, neither is it too expensive but it's the kind of food that i am happy to pay for!!!

the best quiche eva!!

i am quiche crazy and always looking for the best one i can find - well today was a very very good quiche day - walked around the city centre today with sis-in-law and decided to have lunch at the ivy courtyard restaurant - it's a beautiful little piece of heaven just off greenmarket square (at the back of the old city hall) - do yourself a favor and check it out!! - what a nice setting for a superb piece of quiche!!!

finally!!

i am finally a fully fledged capetonian!! it is truly one of the most amazing city's in the world and i feel privileged to count myself as a resident!!

Art junky...

i love my art collection - i'm always drawn to oil paintings and lately very interested in sculptures - i love every piece i own - favorite artists (in no order of preference...) diane victor, pieter wannenburg, mj lourens, wim botha, norman catherine, henk serfontein, audrey anderson, inge du plessis, hanneke benade, my dad, eugenie marais, lionel smit, ronel kellerman - the list is longer.

i spend most of my money on art....

Lola - love of my life!

my blog would not be complete without a mention of my darling pooch Lola - this extremely hairy creature has been part of my life for 5 years and has brought me so much joy and happiness - she's a belgian shepherd tervuren - super intelligent and lovable!

Glass jewelry...

i design and manufacture glass pendants and rings.  i am a self taught glass artist - a lot of trial and error but i now have it down to a fine art! (most of the buzz on the internet is under my married name christa kearns)
my glass studio has been collecting a bit of dust lately and i dread the day that i have to pack it up - something i have been postponing for a while but with the move to cape town i'll have to get down and dirty...

ilovecupcake...

i started ilovecupcake with a friend of mine in september 2007 - we had big dreams for the business and worked our proverbial asses off trying to make it work but alas    we had to close after three years....
ironically i never really ate cupcakes when i owned the ilovecupcake bakery and shops - now i have crazy cravings and i sit drooling thinking about all the lovely cakes that surrounded me before!
it has taken me a year to really get over having to close the bakery and my fantastic staff loosing their jobs but i have made peace with the fact that we really did try everything to make it work.....
